# Using Prompts

> Work with starter prompts, the prompt library, and save your own prompts.

Prompts help you get the most out of Stella by providing templates for common queries. You can use starter prompts, browse the prompt library, or save your own frequently-used queries.

### Starter Prompts

When you start a new chat, Stella displays four suggested prompts based on your context:

* **Global context**: Prompts for analyzing your entire customer portfolio
* **Account context**: Prompts specific to the customer you're viewing

Click any starter prompt to use it, or type your own question.

### Prompt Library

The Prompt Library contains pre-built prompts organized by use case.

**To access the Prompt Library:**

1. Click the **Prompt Library** button in the chat interface
2. Browse available prompts by category
3. Click any prompt to use it in your current chat

**Prompt Categories:**

| Category            | Examples                                         |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Health Analysis** | "Which customers have declining health?" |
| **Renewal Prep** | "Summarize key points for upcoming renewal" |
| **Handover** | "Create a customer overview for CSM transition" |
| **Engagement** | "What topics were discussed in recent meetings?" |
| **Risk Assessment** | "Identify at-risk customers in my book" |

### Save Custom Prompts

Save prompts you use frequently for quick access:

1. Type or refine your query in the chat
2. Click the **Save Prompt** option
3. Give your prompt a name
4. Choose the scope:
   * **Global**: Available in all chats
   * **Account-specific**: Only available when viewing customer accounts

Your saved prompts appear in the Prompt Library for reuse.

### Writing Effective Prompts

<Accordion title="Be specific about what you want">
  **Less effective:** "Tell me about this customer"

  **More effective:** "Summarize the key discussion points from meetings in the last 30 days"
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Include time frames when relevant">
  **Less effective:** "What issues has this customer had?"

  **More effective:** "What support tickets has this customer opened in the last quarter?"
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Ask for specific outputs">
  **Less effective:** "How is this customer doing?"

  **More effective:** "List the top 3 risks and top 3 opportunities for this customer based on recent interactions"
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Use mentions for multiple customers">
  When asking about specific customers from the global Stella view, use @mentions:

  "Compare engagement levels between @Acme Corp and @Beta Inc over the last 60 days"
</Accordion>

### Example Prompts by Role

**For CSMs:**

* "What are the key action items from my meetings this week?"
* "Which of my customers haven't had a check-in in the last 30 days?"
* "Summarize the current status of @CustomerName's implementation"

**For Managers:**

* "Which customers in my team's book are showing declining health?"
* "Summarize renewal readiness for accounts renewing this quarter"
* "What are the common support themes across my team's portfolio?"

**For Executives:**

* "What are the top risks across our enterprise segment?"
* "Summarize expansion opportunities identified this month"
* "Which customers have the most negative sentiment trends?"

### Tips for Better Results

<Tip>
  **Start broad, then refine.** If Stella's answer isn't quite what you need, ask a follow-up question to narrow down the response.
</Tip>

* Use the edit feature to refine your first message if needed
* Check citations to verify the source of each claim
* Expand the thinking panel to understand Stella's reasoning
* Save prompts that work well for reuse
