# CRM Sync

> How Statisfy reads from and writes to Salesforce, HubSpot and Gainsight, and where to fix a record that does not sync.

CRM sync keeps Statisfy and your CRM in step in both directions. This page explains the concepts and links to the article for each task. In **Settings → Config**, these settings are in the **Bidirectional Sync** section.

## The two directions

| Direction | What it does | When it runs |
| - | - | - |
| **Downstream** (CRM → Statisfy) | Statisfy reads accounts, contacts, opportunities and their fields from your CRM. | On your sync schedule. Salesforce can also sync in real time. |
| **Upstream** (Statisfy → CRM) | Statisfy writes the edits you make in Statisfy back to your CRM. | Every hour, and at once when you use **Retry** or **Force sync**. |

Downstream sync is always on for a connected CRM. Upstream sync is off until an admin turns it on.

For Salesforce, you can change how often downstream sync runs, or get changes in real time:

* [Set the schedules](/integrations/salesforce_cdc#set-the-schedules) of the partial (delta) sync and the full sync.
* [Turn on real-time sync](/integrations/salesforce_cdc#turn-on-real-time-sync) with Change Data Capture (CDC).

## Turn on upstream sync

1. Go to **Settings → Object Manager**.
2. Open the tab of the object: **Account**, **People** or **Opportunity**.
3. In the CRM Fields section, select the **Enable upstream sync** checkbox.

Each object has its own checkbox. For **People** and **Opportunity**, a dialog shows what the first sync will do in your CRM. Select **Turn on** to confirm.

For accounts, the checkbox turns on the push to every connected CRM, also Gainsight. See [Push to Gainsight](/integrations/push_to_gainsight).

## Choose what goes where

* **Push to CRM** picks the CRM field that gets the value of a Statisfy field. An account field can push to Salesforce or HubSpot, and to Gainsight, at the same time. See [Push to CRM](/admin/object_manager#push-to-crm).
* **Upstream Target Object** picks the CRM object for meetings and other activity fields. See [Per-Field Upstream Target Object](/admin/object_manager#per-field-upstream-target-object).

Statisfy pushes only values that changed since the last successful push.

## Fix a record that did not sync

| Task | Where | Article |
| - | - | - |
| See every record that the CRM rejected, with the reason | **Integrations → View monitoring → Sync Issues** | [Sync Issues](/admin/sync_issues) |
| Push one record again from the list | **Retry** on a Sync Issues row | [Retry](/admin/sync_issues#retry) |
| Push one record again from its page | The sync status icon, then **Force sync** | [Retry](/admin/sync_issues#retry) |
| Restart a record that stopped after five failures | **Retry** or **Force sync** | [When Statisfy stops retrying](/admin/sync_issues#when-statisfy-stops-retrying) |
| Read one record from the CRM now | **Refresh from CRM** on the record | [Refresh from CRM](/accounts/refresh_from_crm) |

If **Retry** reports **Sync is off**, or **Force sync** shows **Sync to \<CRM> is off**, an admin must turn on the checkbox for that object.

## Who can do what

| Task | Who |
| - | - |
| Turn upstream sync on or off | Admins |
| See Sync Issues | Users with the manage permission for settings |
| Use **Retry** and **Force sync** | Users with data write permission |
| Use **Refresh from CRM** | Users who can open the record |

See [User Management and Roles](/admin/user_management_and_roles_guide) for what each role can do.
